ABOUT POSITION DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a knowledgeable and motivated individual to serve as a part-time instructor and curriculum developer for our new Forklift Technician training program, based on the nationally recognized Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) Certified Forklift Technician (CFT) standards. This role is responsible for helping to develop, implement, and deliver classroom and hands-on training for students preparing to become certified forklift technicians. The instructor will work on an as-needed basis to support program development, instruction, and assessment.

*Continuing Education Instructors are subject to an 18-hour work week.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and DUTIES

• Collaborate with program leadership and LTS Material Handling to develop and refine the Forklift Technician curriculum in alignment with MSSC CFT standards • Deliver engaging, instructor-led online and hands-on training sessions covering forklift maintenance, service, and repair • Prepare students for the Certified Forklift Associate (CFA) and Certified Forklift Technician (CFT) assessments • Evaluate student performance through both online and hands-on assessments, ensuring mastery of the 20 key mechanical work functions outlined by MSSC • Assist in the setup and maintenance of training equipment and materials • Stay current with industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices in forklift technology and technician training • Participate in required MSSC instructor authorization training to become an Authorized CFT Instructor

WHO YOU ARE

COMPETENCIES

• Strong knowledge of forklift systems, including internal combustion and electric lift trucks, hydraulics, brake systems, electrical systems, batteries, masts, attachments, and safety procedures • Experience with curriculum development and/or technical instruction preferred • Ability to deliver both classroom (In-person and/or online) and hands-on training • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Individual Contributor

Work Environment: Work may be required outside of normal business hours, and regular environmental noise

Physical Demands: Sitting, walking, standing, repetitive motion, repetitive typing, Lifting (50lbs)

Travel Required: Yes - Minimal

If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education: High School diploma or the equivalent

Required Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a forklift technician, with at least one (1) year as a lead/supervisor technician or technician trainer

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience as an MSSC Authorized CFT Instructor or Evaluator • Experience working with community colleges, workforce development programs, or industry training centers • Familiarity with online learning platforms and digital assessment tools

Additional Job-Specific Requirements:

• Willingness to complete MSSC CFT Instructor Authorization Training

Part-Time Retirement Part-time employees are required to participate in the part-time retirement fund. The retirement fund is invested in a group fixed annuity contract with Ohio National Life Insurance Company.
