Duties

Help

The work involves liaising with staff from the Joint Congressional Continuity Board and key partners at an offsite location serving as a conduit between external partners and Hill staff. Supporting Board meetings by producing briefing and materials and executing administrative support functions. Attending and facilitating planning meetings while representing the Secretarys interests. Coordinating with Secretary continuity staff to ensure integration of efforts. Cross training where beneficial and backing up other staff leads. Developing continuity plans including technical writing and adjudication and supporting continuity testing, training, and exercises.

Work is bound by Secretary of the Senate policies and procedures, the U.S. Senate Handbook, and the Senate Ethics Manual, but requires independent judgment in setting priorities and handling assignments.

Qualifications

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to everyday risks and discomforts and requires the use of normal safety precautions. Work requires frequent walking, standing, bending, and carrying items up to 25 pounds as well as regular use of typical office equipment including multiple computer network accounts at the unclassified and classified security classifications, typical software programs, and methods of communication such as a computer, email, unclassified and classified telephones at various classification levels, and various secure communications equipment.

Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required for performance of duties. Work also requires physical presence in the liaison office except as otherwise required by the Office of the Secretary. Must be capable of occasionally providing support outside of normal business hours to include evenings and weekends. This position is required to support emergency response and continuity efforts and travel to key locations across the US as needed.

Primary duty station is located in Northern Virginia; frequent travel between duty station and Capitol Hill is required 1-2 times per week or as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Work requires a bachelors degree in a related field with at least one but three years of experience preferred as related to COOP/COG or national or homeland security and the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of the Senate as an institution preferred with a desire and willingness to learn more about the legislative process as well as the history and operation of the Senate.
  • Experience working on plans and procedures is preferred but not required.
  • Experience working in a classified environment is required.
  • Prior Senate work experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting an organizational mission.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under time pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a changing environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to think independently, solve problems, and make decisions using established protocols and priorities.
  • Demonstration of strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to use a computer and relevant computer software programs including databases.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • US citizenship.
  • Possesses a Top Secret security clearance with active SCI access preferred.
