Overview

Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) supports the infrastructure behind Microsoft cloud services. The Contract Strategy Director is an individual-contributor SME who supports the Senior Director, Global Contract Strategy in shaping Microsoft's global alternative strategic contracting and commercial models for EPC delivery. In support of the Central EPC GCM group, the role translates MSFT design and construction requirements into partnering-based contract structures and the aligned commercial, cost, and funding frameworks, partnering with CELA, Finance, and Audit and Compliance, to secure global partner capacity, enable Early Contractor Involvement and advance funding, accelerate speed to market, and protect Microsoft's business interests.

This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 100%.

Responsibilities

Contract model

  • Draft and develop alternative forms of strategic contracting models in partnership with EPC Central Leadership, CELA and Finance: Partnering, IPD, PMC / Owner Representative, Multiple Prime, GC1 and GC2, Shells, AE LTAs, Cx LTAs, and SS LSTK.
  • Serve as the Design and Construction SME to the Senior Director, translating MSFT requirements into contracting structures that let EPC engage global partners, secure capacity, and protect MSFT business interests.

Commercial and cost

  • Develop partner-focused, cross-regional framework commercial structures that align with the GC, AE, Cx, and Shells strategic partnering models and the scope allocation model.
  • Enable Early Contractor Involvement and timely project funding, working with Finance to socialize evolving partnership-based commercial models and secure advance funding that de-risks execution and speeds time to market.
  • Interface with Audit and Compliance to align on new speed-to-market project execution work processes.

Contract strategy integration

  • Keep the contracting model and its commercial and cost structure internally consistent on risk allocation and price, so the models the Senior Director sponsors are commercially sound and durable.
  • Support the Senior Director's Global Contract Strategy agenda by embedding sound contract strategy principles into every model and maintaining alignment across regions.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, Business, Finance or related field AND 5+ years experience in data science/analytics, finance, project management, supply chain, and/or operation
  • OR Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, Business, Finance or related field AND 7+ years experience in data science/analytics, finance, project management, supply chain, and/or operation
  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or preferred qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, Business, Finance or related field AND 12+ years experience in data science/analytics, finance, project management, supply chain, and/or operation

  • OR Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, Business, Finance or related field AND 15+ years experience in data science/analytics, finance, project management, supply chain, and/or operation

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Expertise in alternative delivery and contracting models such as Partnering, Strategic Agreements, ECI, IPD, PMC, Multiple Prime, GMP, and LSTK.

  • Command of Early Contractor Involvement, advance funding, scope allocation, and speed-to-market execution with CELA, Finance, and Audit & Compliance collaboration.

  • Excel and PowerPoint, functional Power BI

  • Data center construction or EPC domain experience

  • Professional accreditation such as CPCM, CCM (FIDIC), or RICS

Sourcing and Category Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.
