Commercial Real Estate Underwriter / Transaction Manager (Contract)

Location: New York, NY (Hybrid)
Schedule: 3 days onsite per week (including 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays each month)
Duration: Contract with potential for extension based on performance and business needs

Position Summary

Our client, a leading global investment bank, is seeking an experienced Commercial Real Estate Underwriter / Transaction Manager to support its Real Estate Finance team. This role is responsible for managing commercial real estate loan transactions from initial underwriting through closing while partnering with Originators, Credit, Legal, Capital Markets, and external clients.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial real estate lending, financial analysis, and transaction management within a fast-paced banking environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Underwrite commercial real estate loan opportunities by analyzing financial statements, property performance, market data, and borrower information.
• Prepare underwriting models, credit recommendations, and Asset Summary Reports for internal approval and pricing.
• Manage transactions from due diligence through closing, coordinating with borrowers, attorneys, consultants, Credit, Legal, KYC, and Operations.
• Oversee third-party vendors including appraisal, environmental, engineering, and underwriting support firms.
• Support loan syndications and securitizations by responding to investor and rating agency due diligence requests.
• Maintain regular communication with borrowers, brokers, and internal stakeholders throughout the transaction process.
• Track active deals, manage timelines, and maintain accurate data within internal workflow systems.
• Ensure all transactions comply with lending policies, underwriting guidelines, and internal credit procedures.
• Assist with process improvements and special projects supporting the Real Estate platform.

Qualifications

• 5–10+ years of commercial real estate lending or underwriting experience within a bank, investment bank, or institutional lending platform.
• Strong knowledge of CRE underwriting, valuation, loan origination, credit analysis, and closing processes.
• Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
• Experience with ARGUS and Rockport is preferred.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple transactions in a deadline-driven environment.
• Strong communication and relationship management skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
