Department Information

The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research (Wells Center) conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine. The Wells Center houses more than 300 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness.

With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond.

Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Serves as Fiscal Officer for multiple organization codes within the Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research.
  • Analyzes, monitors, and evaluates the performance of assigned post-award staff; establishes work priorities, conducts performance reviews, and provides corrective action as needed.
  • Provides training and development of newly assigned or less experienced personnel.
  • Supervises the day-to-day work activities of assigned organization codes; performing various administrative support activities primarily in the areas of financial management, human resources, and compliance. This includes approval of all Human Resource Management System (HRMS) documents, Chrome reimbursements, Buy.IU, and Kuali Financial System (KFS) documents.
  • Collaborates with leadership on process improvements for the Wells Center.

General Responsibilities

  • Advises faculty on long-term financial viability of department/center given multiple grants and contracts from various sources with differing project end dates.
  • Locates and identifies sources of outside funding ones own accord.
  • Develops budget proposals and monitors the resulting awards received for academic and research projects and programs.
  • Interprets regulations and guidelines of multiple programs funding with complex and broad guidelines for spending.
  • Evaluates contract compliance and advises others on contractual rights and obligations.
  • Requests or approves amendments to contract terms or contract extensions.
  • Prepares bids or request for proposals (RFPs), including specifications and requirements; negotiates contract terms and participates in the determination of acceptable bids.
  • Ensures compliance with sponsor terms, university policies/procedures and federal/state regulations.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field.

Preferred

  • Masters degree in a relevant field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 5 years of relevant experience.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary

$70,000.00 - 80,000.00 per year determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
