Job Title: Control & Automation Engineer (Instrumentation and PAT)
Location: Boston, MA
Type: Contract to Hire
Compensation:$72.12
Work Model: Onsite – onsite
Hours: Standard business hours
Security Clearance: Not specified
Overview:
Join a growing U.S. biotechnology organization specializing in RNA medicine manufacturing. You'll design, build, and commission machine control systems, managing the controls lifecycle from requirements to acceptance testing. Your focus will include subsystem management, requirements definition, verification, risk management, and integration for complex electromechanical automation and biotech equipment.
Responsibilities:
• Evaluate process analytical technology instrumentation — UV-Vis, pH, conductivity, temperature, fluorescence, in-line Raman and dynamic light scattering — and the boundary between process feedback control and quality profiling.
• Build, wiring and configuration of the control system; hardware-in-the-loop bench testing; verification of the state machine, interlocks, alarms and fault recovery.
• Conduct commissioning on the integrated machine, including fault-injection campaigns that characterize detection, isolation and recovery behavior.
Requirements
• BS or MS in electrical, control, mechatronic, chemical or automation engineering.
• Eight or more years designing and commissioning control systems for automated laboratory, process or production equipment, with commissioned machines behind you.
• Experience with real-time control, PID and advanced loops, state machines, interlock and safety architecture, sensor selection and calibration, and electrical panel and harness design.
• Fluency with an industrial or embedded control stack and with motion control.
• Instrumentation judgment: sensors that survive the process fluid, sterilization route and duty cycle.
