Position Overview
Stand-By Personnel is seeking an experienced Control Panel Technician to join a field service team supporting industrial boiler and combustion control systems. This position is responsible for startup, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and upgrades of boiler systems, burners, controls, instrumentation, and related electrical and mechanical equipment.
The ideal candidate has hands-on combustion controls experience, strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, and familiarity with fire tube and water tube boilers. This role requires the ability to diagnose complex field issues and work effectively with customers, technicians, and service management.
Required Experience & Skills
23 years of related combustion controls experience required
Experience with fire tube and water tube boilers
Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills
Experience performing burner combustion testing and correcting burner performance
Knowledge of gas burners, fuel trains, flame safety devices, and control systems
Ability to perform field wiring on boiler controls, gas trains, interlocks, and pumps
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Basic computer proficiency, including word processing and spreadsheet applications
Ability to work effectively with personnel at multiple organizational levels
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Perform startup and commissioning of new boiler and HRSG units
Troubleshoot and service fire tube and water tube boiler systems
Perform burner combustion testing and make corrections to burner performance as required
Conduct hydrostatic testing of boilers
Perform boiler boil-outs, cleaning, and flushing procedures
Complete refractory cure-out procedures
Diagnose electrical and mechanical problems in field environments
Repair and upgrade gas burners, fuel trains, flame safety devices, and combustion controls
Install and start up adjustable frequency drives
Perform periodic safety audits of combustion systems, control interlocks, and related equipment
Perform field wiring of low- and high-pressure steam boiler gas trains, controls, interlocks, and pumps
Install and upgrade boiler building controls, gas trains, and flame safety systems
Perform flue gas analysis and equipment startups
Complete burner installations, repairs, upgrades, piping, and wiring
Repair and upgrade feedwater pumps and controls, including associated piping and wiring
Perform additional field service responsibilities as directed by the Service Manager
Controls & Instrumentation Experience
Experience or familiarity with the following systems is highly preferred:
PLC controls
Honeywell
Fireye
Yokogawa
Foxboro
Brain and HART communication protocols
Clark-Reliance water level controls
Adjustable frequency drives
Flame safety and combustion control systems
Preferred Qualifications
Extensive industrial boiler service experience
Boiler startup and commissioning experience
Burner installation and combustion tuning experience
Experience troubleshooting PLC-based control systems
Instrumentation and process control experience
Knowledge of boiler water level, feedwater, and combustion systems
Experience performing field service in industrial customer facilities
Physical & Field Requirements
Ability to perform hands-on electrical and mechanical service work
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and equipment access
Ability to safely use electrical testing equipment, hand tools, and mechanical service equipment
Comfortable working around boilers, burners, piping, pumps, electrical systems, and industrial machinery
Ability to work safely in active industrial and field service environments while wearing required PPE
Work Environment
Combination of industrial field service and equipment troubleshooting
Regular work with boilers, burners, combustion systems, electrical controls, instrumentation, pumps, and piping
Hands-on environment requiring strong troubleshooting and independent problem-solving abilities
Regular interaction with customers, service personnel, and management
Safety-focused position requiring consistent attention to equipment operation and control systems
