OPEN: CONTROL SYSTEM DESIGNERS (MULTIPLE LEVELS) – Houston, TX

Multiple Openings (Senior Design Specialist, Senior Designer, Principal Designer)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Designer will support engineering and construction projects through the development of detailed drawings, models, and design documentation. Positions are available at multiple levels, ranging from experienced designers to senior and principal-level leads.

Depending on experience, individuals may produce and modify design drawings, support 3D modeling activities, or provide leadership and oversight for design deliverables while ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with project requirements.


DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and produce 2D drawings and 3D models using CAD tools
  • Interpret and generate design drawings of moderate to advanced complexity
  • Modify existing drawings and create new design deliverables
  • Support and participate in field walkdowns to verify and capture as-built conditions
  • Read and interpret engineering direction to develop design details and layouts
  • Assist with project documentation including:
    • Design drawings
    • Layouts and models
    • Revision updates
  • Coordinate with engineering and project teams to ensure design accuracy
  • Track key quantities, progress, and design updates

Additional for Senior / Principal Levels:

  • Lead design activities and provide oversight of design deliverables
  • Review and approve work performed by other designers
  • Support development of:
    • Estimates and schedules
    • Staffing requirements and project reports
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior designers

WORK HOURS:

A standard 40-hour work week is scheduled. Additional hours may be required to meet project deliverables.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Education:

  • Associate degree in a related technical field preferred (or equivalent experience)

Experience by Level:

  • Senior Design Specialist: Typically 10+ years relevant experience
  • Senior Designer: Typically 10+ years relevant experience
  • Principal Designer: Typically 15+ years relevant experience

CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE AND/OR SKILLS:

  • Strong experience with computer-aided design (CAD) tools
  • Experience developing engineering design drawings and 3D models
  • Ability to interpret engineering instructions and create accurate design deliverables
  • Experience performing field walkdowns and incorporating field data into designs
  • Background in one or more disciplines such as:
    • Mechanical
    • Electrical
    • Structural
    • Civil
    • Architectural or related engineering fields
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Federal, state, and local codes and standards
  • Strong communication and coordination skills

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • US Citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance if required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with 3D modeling tools (e.g., S3D or similar platforms)
  • Experience supporting engineering and construction projects
  • Familiarity with nuclear or DOE project environments
  • Experience reviewing and directing work of other designers
