Job Full Description

Department: Accounting/Finance

Reports To: CFO / Owner

Position Summary:

The Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the steel fabrication shop, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strategic guidance. This role manages accounting processes within Sage (Sage 100 or Sage 300), supports job costing, and ensures timely financial reporting to support production and business decisions.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Financial Management & Reporting
  • Manage the full accounting cycle, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll oversight, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Oversee cash flow management, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and key balance sheet accounts.
  1. Sage System Management (Sage 100 / Sage 300)
  • Maintain and optimize the company's Sage system for financial tracking, job costing, and inventory.
  • Ensure accurate job cost reporting, including labor, materials, and overhead allocation.
  • Develop reports and dashboards to support production management and leadership.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system discrepancies or workflow issues.
  1. Operational & Compliance Oversight
  • Work closely with production managers to monitor project profitability and cost variances.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and internal financial policies.
  • Manage annual audits, tax filings, and external financial reviews.
  • Implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and improve efficiency.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3-7 years of accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing or construction.
  • Strong knowledge of Sage software and job costing workflows.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both accounting and operations teams.
  • Proficiency in Excel and financial reporting tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • CPA or CMA certification.
  • Experience in steel fabrication or industrial manufacturing.
  • Experience implementing or optimizing ERP systems.

Work Environment:

This position operates in a professional office environment inside a steel fabrication facility. Occasional interaction with shop floor personnel and project managers is required.
