Job Description

About the Role

World Truck Towing & Recovery is a privately owned, growing heavy-duty towing, recovery, and emergency services company with a significant investment in specialized equipment and assets. We are seeking a hands-on Controller who will serve as the senior financial leader of the organization and grow into a CFO role as the company expands.

This is a 100% on-site position. Remote or hybrid work arrangements are not available. The Controller will have a private office at our Seville, Ohio headquarters and will work directly with ownership and operations leadership on a daily basis.

Role Overview

The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial operations while supporting ownership with strategic, operational, and asset-based financial decision-making. This role is ideal for someone who wants to help build and scale a business, not manage a narrowly defined corporate finance function.

Key Responsibilities

Core Accounting & Finance:

• Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations (GL, AP, AR, payroll)

• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

• Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning

• Coordinate with external CPA firm, tax advisors, lenders, and auditors

• Develop and strengthen internal controls and financial reporting processes

Asset-Intensive Financial Management (Critical):

• Manage accounting for a large fleet of revenue-producing assets, including heavy-duty tow trucks, rotators, trailers, service vehicles, and real property

• Maintain depreciation schedules and understand asset life cycles

• Partner with ownership on capital expenditure planning, asset acquisition, and disposal decisions

• Perform lease vs. purchase and ROI analysis for major equipment

• Translate depreciation, utilization, and residual value concepts into operational and strategic insights

Business, Compliance & Cross-Functional Support:

• Work directly with ownership on financial strategy and growth planning

• Provide financial support related to DOT compliance, insurance, and risk management

• Assist with HR-related financial matters such as payroll, benefits, and labor cost analysis

• Step outside traditional finance functions when needed to support the business

CFO Growth Path

This role is intended to evolve into a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) position for the right individual. Advancement will be based on performance, leadership, and contribution to company growth—not tenure alone.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience

• Experience in asset-heavy industries such as trucking, towing, logistics, construction, or equipment-based businesses strongly preferred

• Strong understanding of GAAP, depreciation, and capital asset management

• Comfortable working directly with ownership in a fast-moving, hands-on environment

• High level of accountability, flexibility, and ownership mindset

Work Environment & Expectations

• 100% on-site position at our Seville, Ohio headquarters

• Private office provided

• Exempt position

• Hours may vary based on business needs

Compensation & Benefits

• Competitive base salary commensurate with experience and company size

• Paid holidays and Paid Time Off (PTO)

• Healthcare Reimbursement Account (HRA)

• Supplemental insurance options

• 401(k) plan with employer match

• Long-term compensation growth opportunity as the role evolves into CFO

Important Fit Statement

This role is ideal for someone who wants to help build a company and take ownership beyond a traditional job description. It is not suited for candidates seeking rigid role boundaries or remote work arrangements.
