Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and results-oriented Controller to lead our accounting and financial reporting function for a well-established manufacturing organization. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the company's financial information, maintaining strong internal controls, and delivering timely, accurate financial reporting.

The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who anticipates issues before they arise, develops practical solutions, and builds a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. This individual will partner closely with executive leadership and operational teams to provide financial insight that supports strategic business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and all subsidiary ledgers through timely reconciliations and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities while recommending corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.

Accounting Operations

Oversee all accounting functions, including:

  • General Ledger
  • Accounts Payable
  • Accounts Receivable
  • Inventory & Cost Accounting
  • Fixed Assets
  • Payroll Accounting
  • Revenue Recognition
  • Treasury support
  • Month-end and year-end close

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Ensure audit readiness through accurate reconciliations and documentation.
  • Coordinate external audits and serve as the primary contact for auditors.
  • Support banking relationships, tax compliance, and other financial reporting requirements.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team while creating a culture of ownership and accountability.
  • Establish clear responsibilities and performance expectations for all team members.
  • Cross-train staff to ensure adequate backup coverage for critical accounting processes.
  • Foster professional development and continuous improvement throughout the department.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes through automation and ERP optimization.
  • Develop standardized procedures and documentation to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Partner with IT to maximize system capabilities and streamline financial operations.

Business Partnership

  • Collaborate with Operations, Purchasing, Sales, and Executive Leadership to provide financial insight that supports business objectives.
  • Monitor key financial metrics and proactively communicate potential risks.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, capital investments, and strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5-10+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience, including Controller or Assistant Controller responsibilities
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting
  • Experience leading month-end and year-end close processes
  • Experience managing accounting teams in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent leadership and communication abilities
  • Advanced proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and Microsoft Excel

Preferred

  • CPA, CMA, or MBA
  • Manufacturing, inventory, and cost accounting experience
  • Experience with ERP implementation or optimization initiatives
  • Experience supporting external audits and banking relationships

You should be proficient in:

  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
