We are seeking a hands-on Controller to support a fast-growing organization with expanding and increasingly complex operations. This role is a key member of the business operations team, responsible for financial reporting, tax compliance, job costing, and cash flow management.

The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a dynamic, growth-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

Tax & Compliance

  • Manage sales tax filings across multiple states using Avalara
  • Oversee business registrations for sales tax, income tax, and remote employees
  • Coordinate federal, state, and Canadian tax filings with external advisors
  • Support quarterly estimated tax payments and year-end tax preparation
  • Identify and apply for applicable tax credits and incentive programs

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare and maintain monthly financial reporting packages
  • Monitor cash flow, accounts receivable, and accounts payable
  • Track overhead expenses, including billable vs. non-billable labor
  • Manage project accounting and job close-out reporting
  • Ensure accuracy of financials through month-end close review and reconciliation

Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Lead process improvement initiatives to streamline financial operations
  • Support strategic decisions related to accounting systems, banking, and financial tools
  • Prepare subcontractor financial reporting for government contracts

Operations & Team Support

  • Provide hands-on support to accounting functions including GL, AP, AR, and reconciliations
  • Assist with job costing and financial performance analysis of projects
  • Provide coverage for accounting staff during peak periods or absences

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in accounting, forecasting, and job costing
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, and tax compliance

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA designation
  • Experience in a high-growth company or startup environment
  • Background in construction, contracting, or job costing environments
  • Experience with system implementations or software conversions
  • Exposure to contract or vendor negotiations
