    Description

    Controller + Construction + Omaha

If you’re the kind of accounting leader who doesn’t just report the numbers—but wants to own the story behind them—this is your seat at the table. This is a high-impact role where finance meets operations, and where your work directly influences project performance, profitability, and growth.

We’re partnering with our client, a fast-growing, construction-focused organization seeking a hands-on Controller to build structure, drive accountability, and elevate the financial function. This isn’t a “stay in your lane” accounting role—this is for someone who wants to roll up their sleeves, partner with the business, and help scale something meaningful.

    What You’ll Own

    Financial Leadership & Close Process

    • Lead the full accounting cycle with a focus on accuracy, speed, and integrity
    • Own monthly close and financial reporting, ensuring clean, reliable results
    • Maintain strong balance sheet reconciliations and general ledger discipline
    • Deliver reporting that is clear, actionable, and decision-ready

    Construction Accounting & Job Costing

    • Act as the financial partner to operations and project teams
    • Oversee job cost accounting, WIP, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
    • Review project performance, margins, and cost variances
    • Ensure accuracy in billing, change orders, and subcontractor/vendor activity
    • Provide insight into backlog, project economics, and bidding decisions

    Cash Flow & Working Capital

    • Drive discipline across invoicing, collections, and payables
    • Monitor AR aging and support proactive collection efforts
    • Maintain cash visibility with forecasting and daily oversight
    • Support financial planning with accurate cash and liquidity inputs

    Controls, Compliance & Audit

    • Strengthen internal controls and accounting policies
    • Ensure audit readiness and support external audit processes
    • Maintain compliance across financial, tax, and regulatory requirements
    • Prepare reporting for lenders, sureties, and other stakeholders

    Team Leadership & Process Improvement

    • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team
    • Establish structure, accountability, and scalable processes
    • Identify opportunities to improve systems, workflows, and reporting
    • Stay hands-on where needed—this is a builder role

    Business Partnership

    • Translate operational activity into meaningful financial insight
    • Support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making
    • Align accounting with the broader financial and operational goals

    What You Bring

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
    • 5+ years of construction accounting experience, including leadership exposure
    • Strong knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP, and revenue recognition
    • Experience with construction ERP systems (Sage Intacct, Spectrum, or similar)
    • Proven ability to manage audits and maintain strong controls
    • Advanced Excel skills and overall technical accounting strength

    What Makes You Stand Out

    • You don’t wait to be told what to do—you figure it out
    • You’re as comfortable talking to project managers as you are auditors
    • You balance precision with practicality
    • You want to build something scalable—not just maintain what exists

    Why This Opportunity

This is a chance to step into a visible, high-impact leadership role within a growing platform. You’ll have the autonomy to shape the accounting function, the partnership of strong operational leaders, and the opportunity to build a financial foundation that supports long-term growth.

If you’re looking for more than just “closing the books”—and want to help drive the business forward—this could be the move.
