CONTROLLER
Downers Grove, IL | Full-Time | On-Site
Compensation: $105,000 – $115,000 base + bonus
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are a small private equity company headquartered in Downers Grove, IL. We are seeking a hands-on Controller to own the full accounting function across two portfolio companies. This is a working controller role - the right candidate will be equally comfortable closing the books and rolling up their sleeves on day-to-day transactions as they are producing clean financials for our management team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives in a small-company environment and takes pride in owning the numbers end-to-end.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Month-End Close & Reporting
- Manage and execute the full month-end close process for both portfolio companies
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow)
- Maintain and reconcile all balance sheet accounts
Day-to-Day Accounting
- Oversee AR/AP clerk
- Manage daily cash
- Code and record transactions across both entities
- Prepare and file monthly sales tax returns
- Assist with annual budget preparation
- Prepare info necessary for annual commercial insurance renewals
- Coordinate with external accountants on year-end 1099 preparation
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Proven experience owning a full month-end close process
- Comfortable performing both high-level and transactional accounting work
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, or similar)
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
Preferred
- CPA or CPA candidate
- Prior experience in a small or owner-operated business where wearing multiple hats was the norm
