Controller - Endowment - Hybrid - Manhattan 

A mission-driven global investment organization overseeing a multi-billion-dollar portfolio is seeking a Controller. This role is based in Manhattan on a hybrid schedule. 

The Controller will serve as a key member of a lean investment office responsible for accounting, financial reporting, audit and tax coordination, and governance support across multiple investment entities. 

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting and financial reporting for investment entities, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies.

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and expense management.

  • Oversee and review work performed by third-party fund administrators, including financial statements, expense allocations, and investor reporting.

  • Serve as primary liaison with external audit and tax providers and coordinate annual reporting cycles.

  • Identify financial reporting risks and implement mitigation strategies and process enhancements.

  • Provide technical accounting insight and assess impacts of evolving accounting standards.

  • Support governance activities, including preparation of committee materials, meeting coordination, and documentation.

  • Maintain policies, procedures, and internal controls for critical accounting and operational processes.

  • Manage vendor relationships and support cross-functional initiatives and special projects.

  • Build industry relationships and remain informed on best practices within investment operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

  • 4+ years of relevant accounting or financial reporting experience (investment, endowment, fund, or nonprofit environment preferred).

  • CPA strongly preferred.

  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and communication skills with a proactive, self-starter mindset.

  • Exposure to asset allocation concepts and alternative investments is a plus.

  • Familiarity with investment accounting platforms and reporting tools.
