Position Overview:
The Buller Group LLC is seeking a Controller to oversee and manage all aspects of the company’s accounting and financial reporting functions. This individual will play a critical hands-on role, supporting multiple entities, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with tax and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable operating in a dynamic environment with both real estate and operational accounting responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & General Ledger:
  • Maintain the general ledger and oversee all accounting entries across multiple entities.
  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, and deferred revenue.
  • Manage recurring entries related to prepaid and deferred rents.
  • Ensure accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.

Real Estate Accounting:
  • Prepare year-end real estate workpapers to support annual tax filings.
  • Review and analyze unearned rent income and related accounts.
  • Maintain prepaid real estate tax schedules and record monthly amortization.
  • Process Real Property Income & Expense (RPIE) reports.
  • Support real estate assessment appeals, including preparation of required forms and documentation.

Fixed Assets & Depreciation:
  • Maintain fixed asset records, including additions, disposals, and classification.
  • Record monthly depreciation and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Reclassify expenses between repairs & maintenance and capital expenditures as needed.

Tax & Compliance:
  • Prepare and file sales tax returns (NYS) and ensure timely payments.
  • Manage use and occupancy tax filings and other applicable state/local filings.
  • Support external tax preparers with required schedules and documentation.

Cash Management & Reconciliations:
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Reconcile accounts receivable, accounts payable, and inventory balances to the general ledger.
  • Monitor cash activity and ensure accuracy of financial records.

Operational & Inventory Accounting:
  • Reconcile inventory and uncosted purchases to the general ledger.
  • Analyze production quantities and associated costs for operating entities.
  • Assist with cost tracking and reporting for manufacturing/operational activities.
Payroll & Other Accounting Functions:
  • Prepare and review expense accruals, including property taxes and insurance.
  • Address day-to-day accounting questions and provide financial insights to management.
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 8+ years of accounting experience, with prior Controller or Assistant Controller experience preferred.
  • Experience with real estate accounting strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with general ledger systems and Excel.
  • Ability to manage multiple entities and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
