Job Description

Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for leading the organization's accounting and financial operations, with a strong focus on manufacturing finance, inventory accounting, cost accounting, financial reporting, and operational performance. This role provides financial leadership and business partnership to executive management and cross-functional teams, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective internal controls, sound inventory management, and informed decision-making.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in a manufacturing environment, including hands-on responsibility for inventory accounting, standard and actual costing, manufacturing variances, purchasing, production, COGS, and financial analysis. Experience with another ERP system and the ability to learn new systems quickly is highly valued.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct all accounting and finance functions, including general accounting, cash management, banking relationships, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and financial reporting.

  • Lead and mentor accounting and finance staff, promoting accuracy, accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.

  • Prepare and review comprehensive monthly financial statements, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and detailed account analyses.

  • Oversee inventory accounting and valuation, ensuring inventory records are accurate, complete, properly classified, and reconciled to the general ledger.

  • Manage accounting for raw materials, work-in-process, finished goods, and related inventory transactions.

  • Analyze and monitor manufacturing costs, including direct materials, direct labor, overhead, production costs, and cost of goods sold.

  • Develop, maintain, and analyze standard costs and/or actual costs and investigate significant manufacturing cost variances.

  • Partner closely with Operations, Production, Purchasing, Supply Chain, and Warehouse teams to improve inventory accuracy, costing, purchasing controls, and operational efficiency.

  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, cycle count variances, obsolete and slow-moving inventory, inventory adjustments, and other inventory-related issues.

  • Monitor inventory turnover, production variances, scrap, usage, labor efficiency, overhead absorption, and other manufacturing KPIs.

  • Support physical inventory counts and establish appropriate procedures and controls for inventory management.

  • Oversee purchasing and accounts payable processes to ensure accurate recording of purchases, timely invoice processing, and appropriate authorization of expenditures.

  • Oversee accounts receivable, credit, collections, cash application, and customer account management.

  • Develop and maintain effective internal controls over cash, inventory, purchasing, sales, receivables, payables, and financial reporting.

  • Lead internal and external audits and coordinate the timely preparation of supporting schedules and documentation.

  • Ensure financial reporting complies with GAAP, company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Develop annual budgets, financial forecasts, operating plans, and scenario analyses in partnership with executive and operational leadership.

  • Prepare financial analyses that identify trends, risks, cost-saving opportunities, and opportunities to improve profitability.

  • Develop and report meaningful financial and operational KPIs for management, including inventory turns, gross margin, manufacturing variances, production costs, working capital, and cash flow.

  • Partner with executive leadership and department managers to evaluate business performance and support strategic decision-making.

  • Provide financial guidance and analysis related to pricing, purchasing, production planning, inventory levels, capital expenditures, and operational investments.

  • Maintain the integrity of financial and operational data within the company's ERP and accounting systems.

  • Work with IT and business users to improve ERP processes, reporting, data integrity, and financial system controls.

  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize the company's ERP platform is expected.

  • Prepare internal management reports and external financial reporting for business partners, auditors, lenders, and regulatory agencies.

  • Ensure compliance with tax, regulatory, financial reporting, and other applicable requirements.

  • Administer business and medical insurance policies, including renewals, financial review, and cost optimization as applicable.

  • Support distributor and Medicaid rebate calculations, reporting, and payments as applicable to the business.

  • Facilitate effective cross-functional communication between Finance, Operations, Manufacturing, Sales, Customer Service, Purchasing, and Supply Chain.

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen controls, reduce costs, and increase financial and operational efficiency.

Pay Details: $160,000.00 to $195,000.00 per year
