We are recruiting on behalf of a privately held, growing residential construction and homebuilding company in the Fort Worth area. They are seeking an experienced Controller to own the accounting and finance function and serve as a key partner to operations and ownership. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives in a builder environment, understands the nuances of job costing and subcontractor accounting, and can translate project activity into clear, actionable financial insight.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead all core accounting activities, including general ledger management, month-end close, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.
  • Own project accounting: job costing, WIP schedules, cost tracking, margin analysis, and profitability reporting at the project and portfolio level.
  • Oversee subcontractor accounting, including compliance tracking, insurance documentation, payment processing, and contract/PO administration.
  • Develop and maintain accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Partner closely with construction operations and ownership to monitor project performance, review budgets vs. actuals, and provide forward-looking financial guidance.
  • Manage cash flow forecasting, working capital planning, and funding needs to support an active pipeline of residential builds and lots.
  • Ensure adherence to GAAP and company financial policies while tailoring processes to the realities of a construction environment.
  • Coordinate annual reviews/audits, tax preparation, and interactions with outside accounting and tax advisors.
  • Strengthen internal controls, refine accounting workflows, and improve reporting structure and transparency.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous process improvement.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant leadership responsibility in homebuilding, residential construction, land development, or a closely related industry.
  • Deep expertise in job costing, project accounting, subcontractor management, and WIP reporting in a builder setting.
  • Proven experience managing month-end close, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Hands-on experience with construction-focused accounting workflows and strong proficiency with QuickBooks; exposure to construction accounting/ERP systems is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with project managers, superintendents, and ownership.
  • CPA credential preferred but not required.
  • Track record of being a trusted advisor to executive leadership and operations, with the ability to challenge assumptions and support strategic decisions with data.

If you are interested in this opportunity and possess the necessary qualifications, please submit your resume for immediate consideration.
