Controller (Interim / Contract-to-Hire)

Location: Ridgefield, WA

Work Arrangement: Fully On-Site

Employment Type: Temporary or Contract-to-Hire

Compensation: $55-$72/hour

Duration: Approximately 1-2 months, with potential for longer-term opportunity

Position Overview

The Controller will report directly to the CFO and serve as the lead accounting professional responsible for overseeing financial operations, project accounting, month-end close, reporting, cash management, and accounting staff. The role collaborates extensively with Project Managers, Estimators, Executive Leadership, Purchasing, Payroll, and Operations teams to provide financial insights and drive business performance.

The ideal candidate will have strong construction and/or manufacturing accounting experience, excellent project accounting knowledge, and the ability to quickly step into a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and complete month-end close processes and financial reporting.

  • Produce, update, and maintain company budgets and forecasts.

  • Oversee accounting operations including accounts payable, payroll support, purchasing, billing, and project accounting.

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, including a Project Accountant and AP personnel.

  • Manage cash flow, budgeting, and variance analysis.

  • Develop and maintain project-level financial reporting and performance tracking.

  • Collaborate with Project Managers and senior leadership to monitor project profitability, forecasts, and cost trends.

  • Conduct monthly project performance reviews and identify financial risks or red flags.

  • Coordinate preparation and issuance of monthly financial statements and management reports.

  • Oversee tax preparation processes and external accounting relationships.

  • Maintain banking, insurance, and key vendor relationships.

  • Generate labor cost analyses, profitability forecasts, and company proformas.

  • Ensure contract billings are completed accurately and timely.

  • Establish and document accounting procedures and internal controls.

  • Participate in weekly project review meetings and provide financial guidance to operational leaders.

  • Support continuous process improvement initiatives and special projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • 5-7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.

  • Construction, project-based, manufacturing, or industrial accounting experience strongly preferred.

  • Strong understanding of project accounting, job costing, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.

  • Experience leading month-end close and preparing financial statements.

  • Proven ability to partner with operations and project management teams.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.

  • CPA, CMA, or MBA is a plus.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Experience with CMiC or similar construction/project accounting ERP systems preferred.

Pay Details: $55.00 to $72.00 per hour
