Description

An organization dedicated to community impact is seeking an Interim Controller in New York City. This role will oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and team leadership for a mission-driven nonprofit environment.

About the Opportunity:

  • Shift: Day
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday
  • Hours: 35 paid hours per week
  • Setting: Hybrid (3 days onsite; Tuesday to Thursday are mandatory)

Responsibilities:

  • Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including disbursements, receipts, payroll processing, and reconciliations
  • Oversee monthly and annual close processes, including journal entries, adjustments, and general ledger analyses
  • Manage cash flow, vendor payments, collections follow-up, and reporting to funding partners and regulatory agencies
  • Direct external audit coordination, compliance deliverables, and required filings, including annual financial statements and tax reporting
  • Supervise accounting staff and support finance reporting, board materials, and special process improvement initiatives

Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of progressive Accounting experience, including controller-level leadership
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • Recent hands-on experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT, including the general ledger and related configurations
  • Strong proficiency in nonprofit GAAP, government contracting, revenue recognition, and audit readiness
  • Experience supervising a team of five or more staff members
  • Proficiency with accounting and payroll systems, including ADP
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Desired Skills:
  • CPA designation
  • Experience with Great Plains
  • Familiarity with NYC fiscal systems and processes
  • Experience preparing and presenting board-level financial packages
