Position Summary

HEBSV is seeking a strategic and detail oriented Controller to oversee the financial operations of our organization. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all accounting policies, procedures, and reporting systems. The Controller plays a key leadership role in managing daily accounting functions, internal controls, and cash management, while also supporting the development and analysis of annual budgets and long-term financial planning.

This position leads a dedicated team of accounting professionals and works closely with department leaders, the CFO, and the Board of Directors to ensure financial transparency, compliance, and informed decision-making.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee core accounting functions, including general ledger, AR/AP, reconciliations, and purchase order control.
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings and reporting.
  • Support CFO in preparing annual budgets, tracking performance, and identifying opportunities for improved financial effectiveness.
  • Manage and mentor a team of accounting staff; foster a collaborative and high-performance team culture.
  • Coordinate financial information delivery to internal departments and external stakeholders.
  • Lead annual audit preparation and tax filings; liaise with external auditors and present findings to senior leadership and Audit Committee.
  • Maintain oversight of organizational cash flow and bank accounts in coordination with the CFO.
  • Serve as administrator for financial software systems and provide training as needed.
  • Develop and implement policies to ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and internal controls.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in accounting laws and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Controller, ideally in a nonprofit, construction, or similar industry with a budget exceeding $20MM.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills; ability to build cross functional relationships.
  • Expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.
  • Proficient in financial systems and data analysis; experience as a systems administrator a plus.
  • Highly organized, analytical, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. (no sponsorship provided).
