This role is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, ensuring financial accuracy, and building scalable financial processes that support continued growth.

Our company operates a mix of established, mature business units alongside newly expanding markets, creating a unique environment that blends the operational rigor of an established company with the pace and entrepreneurial energy of a high-growth startup. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, is comfortable navigating change, and enjoys building structure where it doesn't yet exist. This individual will work closely with the Divisional VP of Finance to develop scalable workflows, strengthen financial controls, and establish best-in-class accounting practices that enable the organization to grow efficiently.

This role requires a hands-on leader who fully owns the financial close process, builds and develops a high-performing accounting team, and proactively identifies process improvements and operational bottlenecks.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Accounting Oversight

  • Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, revenue recognition, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll
  • Own and lead the monthly financial close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
  • Maintain and improve the company's internal control environment

Process Development & Scalability

  • Partner with the Divisional VP of Finance to design and implement scalable accounting processes
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) across the accounting function
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve operational efficiency
  • Build systems and processes that support multi-location operations and continued market expansion

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, develop, and mentor members of the accounting and finance team
  • Establish clear performance expectations and accountability within the department
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accuracy, and continuous improvement

Operational Partnership

  • Work cross-functionally with operations, service, and project management teams
  • Provide financial insight into service operations, project profitability, and business performance
  • Identify financial or operational bottlenecks impacting efficiency or profitability

Systems & Financial Infrastructure

  • Manage and optimize the company's accounting systems and reporting tools
  • Support system enhancements and financial infrastructure improvements as the company scales
  • Drive reporting and data accuracy across the organization

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • 3+ years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Proven experience owning and managing the full month-end close process
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop accounting teams
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth environment

Highly Preferred

  • Experience in construction, HVAC, field services, or project-based businesses
  • Experience supporting multi-location or multi-entity organizations
  • Strong experience with QuickBooks Online and/or NetSuite

Ideal Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • High ownership mentality – takes full responsibility for financial accuracy and outcomes
  • Operational curiosity – seeks to understand how the business truly works
  • Process-building mindset – enjoys creating structure and scalable workflows
