Location: Phoenix, AZ
Salary: $140,000.00 USD Annually - $150,000.00 USD Annually
Description: Our client is currently seeking a CONTROLLER in AZ.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Controller to oversee the financial operations, reporting, and accounting staff for a key business division. This role acts as a strategic partner to both Division Management and Corporate leadership, ensuring accurate financial reporting, contract integrity, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction-related accounting and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Financial Management & Reporting: Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing cycles. Prepare and review comprehensive financial statements, variance analyses, and WIP (Work-in-Progress) reports.

• Operational Oversight: Supervise and mentor accounting staff. Oversee essential functions including payroll, accounts receivable/collections, accounts payable, and 401(k) compliance.

• Strategic Advisory: Partner with the Division Manager to review budgets, monitor cash flow, and advise on financial challenges and growth opportunities.

• Contracts & Compliance: Assist in negotiating and reviewing customer, vendor, and subcontractor contracts. Manage regulatory filings (tax, licensing, permits) and environmental reporting.

• Risk & Insurance: Oversee insurance renewals (medical/commercial), manage claim resolutions, and handle bonding requirements for various projects.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance.

• Experience: Minimum 8 years of accounting experience. A mix of public and private accounting is preferred.

• Industry Knowledge: Strong background in construction accounting (WIP, certified payroll, etc.) is highly preferred.

• Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Experience with construction-specific ERP software (e.g., Sage, eSub) is a plus.
