Key Responsibilities

Lead the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the company.
Manage accounts payable, payroll, vendor compliance, and financial reporting.
Maintain QuickBooks Enterprise and ensure accurate financial records.
Oversee expense coding, credit card reconciliation, and project profitability tracking.
Improve financial processes, reporting, and system integration to support company growth.
Partner with ownership on financial planning and operational decision-making.
Approximately 60% of the role is focused on ensuring the company's day-to-day financial operations run accurately and efficiently. Responsibilities include managing accounts payable, maintaining QuickBooks Enterprise, ensuring vendor compliance, overseeing 1099 reporting, coding expenses accurately, processing payroll, monitoring and mapping credit card activity, maintaining multi-state business registrations and insurance compliance, and supporting financial reporting.

Some days you'll be reviewing invoices, verifying vendor documentation, coding expenses, and reconciling transactions. While much of this work happens behind the scenes, it is critical to the financial integrity of our business. Every invoice, purchase order, and expense classification contributes to how we measure project profitability, evaluate operational performance, and calculate commissions. Attention to detail isn't simply important—it's fundamental to how we run our business.

The remaining portion of the role is where the opportunity becomes especially rewarding.

The ideal candidate enjoys creating order from complexity, takes pride in accuracy, and sees opportunities where others see manual processes. They are equally comfortable rolling up their sleeves to code invoices as they are recommending a better system or process.

This is more than a traditional accounting position. You'll partner directly with the company's Finance leader, gaining a comprehensive understanding of every aspect of the business while assuming increasing responsibility over time. For the right person, this role offers a genuine opportunity for long-term professional growth and future leadership within the organization.

The position also provides support for payroll administration, human resources, and occasional marketing initiatives; however, the primary focus is building and maintaining a strong financial and operational foundation for the company.

Qualifications

7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably in a small to mid-sized business.
Strong knowledge of financial reporting, general ledger accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and multi-state compliance.
Experience with QuickBooks Enterprise or similar ERP/accounting systems.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to develop spreadsheets that improve workflow, reporting, and business processes.
Demonstrated ability to improve processes and implement financial controls.
Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
Comfortable working directly with ownership in a collaborative, hands-on environment.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
