Position Overview

The Controller is a key member of the leadership team responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting operations within Talley Construction. This role ensures the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with internal controls and external regulations, and provides strategic financial guidance to support business objectives.

The Controller leads a team of finance professionals and collaborates closely with operational leaders to drive performance, manage risk, and support growth initiatives. This position requires a hands-on leader with strong technical accounting expertise, business acumen, and the ability to communicate financial insights effectively across all levels of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Functions

• Supports the finance team, including the accounting staff, accounts receivable, payroll, procurement, and material sales, day-to-day activities. • Ensures accurate and timely financial reporting to the finance team. • Ensures adequate controls are installed and maintained to safeguard the financial assets of the group, including all Sarbanes-Oxley, SOX regulations, AMAT, and South Division accounting policies and procedures. • Coordinates all requests and documentation related to external and internal audits. • Works with President and senior management on financial analysis and board proposals for potential acquisitions and major CAPEX requests. • Reviews balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis to ensure all balances are reconciled properly with supporting backup. • Leads and/or assists on completing budgets and reforecasts for Talley Construction. • Manages the Talley Construction Division roll-up of month-end flash close, as well as supports the finance team in month-end flash close. • Works with President and senior management on the strategic plan. • Reviews USGAAP schedules quarterly for completeness and accuracy prior to submission to Atlanta. • Reviews financial statements and explains variances on queries as necessary. • Recommends and/or assists new efforts to improve management and financial performance at both the Op Co and Group level. • Provides solid leadership and support for AMATs talent management initiatives through succession planning and professional development of the accounting personnel within the organization. • Participates in key decisions as a member of the executive management team. • Maintains good working relations with managers from all lines of business. • Works on ad hoc projects as directed.

Additional Responsibilities

• Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required. • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
