Sterling Engineering is hiring a Controller for a well-established, family-owned manufacturing company seeking a hands-on financial leader to oversee all accounting operations and partner closely with executive leadership. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Controller who enjoys working in a collaborative environment where your expertise will directly influence business strategy, operational performance, and long-term growth. You'll lead a small accounting team while driving financial accuracy, process improvements, and sound business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and mentor the accounting department while overseeing daily financial operations
Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
Prepare, analyze, and present financial statements and management reports
Maintain the general ledger and ensure compliance with GAAP standards
Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and cash flow planning
Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed asset accounting
Coordinate year-end audits and partner with external auditors and tax professionals
Strengthen internal controls and continuously improve accounting processes
Provide financial analysis, reporting, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial reporting requirements
Utilize SAP ERP and advanced Excel reporting tools to support financial decision-making
Qualifications
Must have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent professional experience
Must have 5+ years of Controller or senior-level accounting experience
Previous experience leading or supervising an accounting team
Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting best practices
Hands-on experience using SAP ERP systems
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and financial reporting
