Controllership/Accounting

Summary:

• Shift: Weekdays, 08:00 AM - 05:00 PM [Lunch: 12:00 PM - 01:00 PM]
• Location: Onsite in Buffalo Grove, IL

Responsibilities:

• Manage the general accounting function and supervise A/R, Billing, and A/P.
• Maintain accounting sub-ledgers and prepare monthly account reconciliations.
• Direct maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers, accounts receivable/payable, revenue recognition/distribution, and fixed asset and depreciation records.
• Ensure accounting transactions, JV’s, and records are prepared timely and accurately in accordance with GAAP.
• Supervise and participate in the month-end close process and preparation of various financial reports and corporate reporting packages.
• Prepare account reconciliations and research discrepancies.
• Perform analytical reviews of financial reports and KPIs to identify trends and develop appropriate responses.
• Participate in the preparation of the annual financial and strategic plan, and in monthly P&L and working capital forecasts.
• Assist in developing and implementing goals, policies, priorities, procedures, and work instructions relating to financial management, accounting, payroll, and budgeting within a manufacturing environment.
• Ensure accounting procedures are documented and up to date.
• Consult on the effectiveness and efficiency of accounting process flow.
• Implement process and automation improvements to reduce reconciliation efforts.
• Crosstrain with other positions within the department.
• Assist in planning and directing work and addressing problems/concerns as they arise.
• Establish system controls and adhere to SOX requirements, including compliance testing of key control areas.
• Support internal and external audits involving review of accounting records and internal controls, including SOX.
• Coordinate preparation of external audit schedules and internal financial reporting.
• Provide support to internal customers as needs arise, including ad-hoc financial analysis and special projects.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) or equivalent with minimum four years related experience in a diverse manufacturing environment.
• Thorough understanding of GAAP and standard cost systems.
• Minimum of four years supervisory role in a lean accounting department, preferably of A/R and A/P functions.
• Experience with fully integrated ERP systems - Oracle R12 (or similar software), including Essbase and Hyperion Financial Management reporting systems.
• Strong Microsoft Office computer skills – Advanced Excel (Pivot tables, Power Pivot, Power Query, VLOOKUP, Macros, etc), Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
• Ability to prepare well-constructed spreadsheets demonstrating financial acumen and visual appeal.
• Experience in a lean manufacturing environment; participation in kaizens and value stream mapping exercises.
• Experience with Lean Accounting methodologies.
• Strong analytical, accounting research, and problem-solving skills required.
• Highly detail-oriented and organized.
• Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently with minimal daily direction from management to accomplish objectives and deadlines.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and interface with all levels of management.

Preferred Skills:

• CPA, MBA preferred.
• A sense of urgency with the ability to meet communicated schedules and deadlines.
• Adherence to policies, procedures, and strong knowledge of GAAP.

Physical Demands:

Work Environment:

• The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
