Description

Controls & Automation Engineer – Ground-Up PLC/HMI Design

Up to $110,000 Base Salary + Profit Sharing • Greater Milwaukee Area • Travel Flex • Full Benefits Package
  • EXPERIENCE LEVEL: 2+ Years of Automation Depth (Openings Actively Calibrated for Junior, Mid-Level, and Senior Talents)
  • COMPENSATION: Up to $110,000 depending on experience + Profit Sharing + Full Corporate Benefits Package
  • CORE LOGIC: Proven mastery developing PLC and HMI programs entirely from scratch using Rockwell / Allen-Bradley platforms (Studio 5000 / FactoryTalk)
  • TRAVEL FLEXIBILITY: 25% to 50% domestic travel for client commissioning, backed by guaranteed, immediate comp days for weekend startup work
  • LOCATION & COLLABORATION: On-site engineering lab collaboration in the Greater Milwaukee / Washington County corridor
  • REQUIREMENTS: US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder) residing within a 45-minute commute

This opportunity offers the ultimate antidote to career burnout for a controls engineer who is tired of being stuck in a repetitive plant maintenance loop or siloed into rewriting the exact same corporate machine template. Operating as a premier, fast-growing automation integration firm that has doubled its footprint year-over-year, this company functions with an engineering philosophy that is strictly anti-monotony. Every single project is a custom, ground-up solution—allowing you to build software for large-scale sortation networks, robotic welding cells, and ultra-precise multi-axis servo systems.

The organization protects its engineering talent aggressively. Recognizing that field commissioning takes dedication, a strict, non-negotiable travel-balancing policy is enforced: if a customer startup forces you to travel over a weekend, you are instantly awarded comp days so you return home to a relaxing four-day weekend. No exceptions and no corporate guilt. If you want true project ownership, want to watch your code drive massive physical machinery, and want a career where your work actually carries weight, this zero-bureaucracy environment is built for you.

What You Will Be Doing (Daily Responsibilities)

  • Develop robust PLC programs and intuitive HMI interfaces completely from scratch for complex, custom automation machinery, robotic cells, and specialized sorting networks.
  • Engineer advanced operator interfaces using FactoryTalk View, or incorporate Visual Studio and C# for high-level enterprise software and database integrations.
  • Review and verify detailed control schematics in AutoCAD to ensure panel layouts align with Bill of Materials (BOM) specs and safety regulations.
  • Implement, configure, and troubleshoot industrial networking protocols and hardware, including EtherNet/IP, multi-axis servo motion control, machine vision systems, and safety controllers.
  • Serve as the primary technical field authority during on-site customer startups, supervising installations, and executing final commissioning sequences.

What We Are Looking For (Requirements & Qualifications)

  • Ground-Up Controls Depth: 2+ years of verifiable professional experience designing and programming control systems from scratch using Allen-Bradley/Rockwell platforms (Studio 5000 / RSLogix), rather than simply modifying existing code blocks.
  • Technical Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Automation Technology, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Stability: Reliable career track record demonstrating steady tenure and commitment with prior employers.
  • Field Mobility: Willingness and capability to travel domestically 25% to 50% to champion custom integration rollouts at client sites.
  • Local Proximity: Residing within a comfortable 45-minute drive of the Greater Milwaukee / Washington County corridor.

Preferred Technical Assets (Strong Bonus Skills)

  • Hands-on configuration of advanced multi-axis servo motion systems or industrial vision platforms (Cognex, Keyence).
  • High-level language coding proficiency (C#, VB.NET) or SQL relational database programming depth.
  • Direct programming, path teaching, or integration experience with FANUC or alternative industrial robotic arms.
