Position Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Controls Estimator to develop accurate cost estimates and proposals for a variety of engineering, automation, and manufacturing projects.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing and engineering, with experience specifying mechanical and electrical components, estimating manufacturing labor hours, and managing the quotation process from initial scope development through final proposal submission.
This role requires strong technical, organizational, and communication skills, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with sales, engineering, vendors, and customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare detailed cost estimates and proposals for UL 508A and NFPA 79 control systems, custom automated machinery, and material handling equipment.
Develop accurate estimates for labor, materials, purchased components, tooling, and outsourced services.
Evaluate and specify electro-mechanical components commonly used in automation and controls applications.
Collaborate with vendors to obtain technical information, component recommendations, and pricing necessary for project estimates.
Assist in defining project scope, objectives, and technical requirements while coordinating with stakeholders.
Manage changes in project scope, schedules, and costs, ensuring proper documentation and customer approvals when required.
Coordinate closely with sales and engineering teams to maintain customer expectations and support project success.
Meet established quotation deadlines and respond effectively to expedited customer requests.
Present technical information clearly and professionally to customers, colleagues, and stakeholders.
Follow up on submitted proposals and actively manage quote requests throughout the sales pipeline.
Provide hands-on engineering support when needed to complete project requirements.
Utilize software tools such as Exact Online, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and related applications to review drawings and develop estimates.
Qualifications:
Associate degree in Electronics, Engineering Technology, Business, or a related field; equivalent experience will also be considered.
Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical controls programming, controls manufacturing, automation, or related production environments.
Experience developing project cost estimates, proposals, or quotations.
Strong understanding of industrial automation systems, control panels, and electro-mechanical components.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
Excellent communication, organizational, and project coordination skills.
Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Microsoft Office, and related estimating software tools.
