Location: Charlotte, NC (Onsite)

Position Overview

The Controls Engineer is responsible for programming, installing, commissioning, and supporting automated material handlingand mobile automation systems. This role works closely with cross-functional teams and customers to deliver safe, reliable, and high-quality automation solutions while supporting system improvements and long-term performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program and configure automated control systems for industrial automation applications
  • Support onsite installation, commissioning, testing, and system verification
  • Provide technical training to customers and internal stakeholders
  • Support system modifications, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure all work complies with safety, quality, and company standards
  • Execute project tasks in alignment with defined schedules and milestones
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of technical documentation, including operations and maintenance materials
  • Communicate project status and technical updates to project leadership
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records using approved systems and formats

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates should demonstrate the following:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering
  • Strong PLC programming experience, including structured text.
  • Experience with automated systems, such as material handling, mobile automation, or motion-based platforms
  • Ability to integrate, troubleshoot, and support complex automation systems
  • Electrical aptitude with the ability to safely troubleshoot industrial power and control systems
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with customers and internal teams
  • Experience developing technical documentation and reports
  • High attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and perform under project deadlines
  • Comfortable providing technical training and support to small groups
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with modern automation platforms or motion control environments
  • Exposure to mobile automation, robotics, or advanced material handling systems
  • CAD or electrical schematic familiarity
  • Commercial awareness and sensitivity to cost, scope, and customer expectations
Education
  • Associate's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related technical field preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline is a plus, or equivalent industry experience
