Controls Engineer (AGV Systems)

Location: Charlotte, NC

Pay: $115,000 – $125,000

Travel: ~30% (otherwise office-based)

We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer with exposure to AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) systems to support the design, implementation, and deployment of advanced material handling solutions. This role is a mix of hands-on engineering, customer interaction, and system integration, with opportunities to work both in-house and at client sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, program, and implement AGV systems for industrial applications
  • Support system integration, testing, installation, and startup at customer sites
  • Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and system modifications
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project timelines and deliverables
  • Train customers and internal teams on system functionality and best practices
  • Maintain accurate documentation including reports, manuals, and system updates
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in industrial automation
  • Hands-on experience with PLC programming and structured text (Codesys preferred)
  • Exposure to AGV systems required
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems (including 480V, controls, and mobile equipment)
  • Ability to troubleshoot, program, and integrate complex automation systems
  • Experience with CAD is a plus
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with customers
