Position: Controls Engineer II
Location: Sheboygan, WI
Type: Full-time | On-site

Summary:

Provide electrical engineering support for the development and commercialization of new processes, process improvements and technical systems. Responsible for the electrical design and development of manufacturing equipment and processes while supporting continuous improvement efforts as it relates to equipment reliability, equipment safety, and processes. Participates in activities with cross-functional teams and leads skill-appropriate projects or activities as required in support of business objectives.

Essential Accountabilities:
  • Modifying/writing new PLC/HMI/other system programs.
  • Update/create electrical schematics.
  • Determine requirements for new equipment/systems.
  • Installing new automation on existing equipment. Coordinate and oversee the installation. Modify necessary PLC/HMI programs.
  • Perform testing and validation work as required. Complete required paperwork and training for new systems.
  • Getting to root cause and leading efforts to apply corrective action to prevent future incidents.
  • Identify obsolete components and lead the effort to oversee the replacement with readily available components.
  • Identify required spare parts, understand lead times and possible substitute parts, and recommend quantities to stock.
  • Update/create P&ID drawings.
  • Getting quotes for parts or services.
  • Coordinate work for hired contractors and services.
  • Support device communications on the machine ethernet network.
  • Maintaining/troubleshooting/updating machine safety systems.

Qualifications & Requirements:

(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the essential accountabilities satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)
  • Bachelor's degree in an electrical-related field and 4 years of PLC programming in a manufacturing environment or similar experience and education equivalence.
Technical Experience required:
  • PLC/HMI/Servo/VFD programming experience using the Rockwell Automation platform.
  • Knowledge of automation networks and communications, including Ethernet, DeviceNet, ASi, ControlNet, DH+, Remote I/O, RS232 and the software used to support these.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD or comparable electrical design software.
  • Read and understand electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic schematics and P&ID drawings.
  • strong analytical skills and exposure to project management
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, and OSHA regulations.
  • Computer skills using Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project.
