Description

The Controls Engineer will take a hands-on role in developing, programming, and supporting control systems for highly customised automation equipment. This position combines software development with practical engineering, requiring involvement in PLC/HMI programming, system integration, and real-time troubleshooting.

You will collaborate closely with mechanical engineers, electricians, and project managers to ensure systems are delivered to specification, function reliably, and meet customer requirements. The role also includes participation in factory testing, machine commissioning, and occasional on-site installation support, providing strong exposure to the full machine lifecycle.

• Design, develop, and optimise PLC, HMI, and control system architectures.
• Support system integration including robotics, vision, and motion control.
• Lead or assist with machine testing and commissioning activities.
• Troubleshoot and resolve controls issues during build and in the field.
• Maintain documentation, backups, and revision control across projects.

Profile

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented Controls Engineer with a strong balance of programming expertise and hands-on troubleshooting ability. They will be comfortable working in a project-driven environment, managing multiple priorities while maintaining a high standard of quality and reliability.

A collaborative mindset is essential, as the role requires consistent interaction with cross-functional teams throughout design, build, and installation phases.

• Experience programming PLCs and HMIs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar).
• Strong electrical troubleshooting skills and schematic interpretation ability.
• Background in industrial automation with at least 2+ years' experience.
• Familiarity with robotics, industrial networks, or machine vision systems.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and communicate effectively across teams.
