CONTROLS ENGINEER (PROGRAMMER)

Openwork is currently engaged in a search to find an innovative Controls Engineer in Oklahoma City, OK. In this impactful and hands-on role, you will be responsible for taking complete ownership of custom machine controls throughout the entire project lifecycle—from initial concept and design through manufacturing, debugging, customer startup, and long-term support. In a Controls Engineer job you’ll be responsible for:

• Designing and developing control systems for custom industrial machinery, including programming PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, and safety controllers.

• Integrating electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and motion control systems, followed by debugging and testing machinery during assembly.

• Leading machine startup, commissioning, installation, optimization, and troubleshooting activities at customer locations.

• Creating and maintaining software backups, configuration files, revision records, and technical documentation for operation and maintenance manuals.

What you’ll need:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, OR equivalent combination of education and hands-on controls experience.

• 5+ years of experience programming and commissioning industrial machinery, automation systems, or OEM equipment.

• Proven proficiency with Allen-Bradley PLC platforms (ControlLogix and CompactLogix) and HMI application development.

• Hands-on experience integrating variable frequency drives, motors, sensors, and industrial control devices.

• Strong troubleshooting abilities involving electrical controls, machine automation, and industrial networks, alongside the ability to read electrical schematics.

• Ability and willingness to travel approximately 25-50% domestically and occasionally internationally.

Compensation, Schedule, and Benefits:

• $80K-$125K, dependent on experience

• Schedule: Monday-Friday with some evenings and weekends. Balancing office, manufacturing floor, and field customer sites.

• Travel: Approximately 25-50%.
