Job Summary (List Format) for Controls Engineer - Battery Manufacturing (Sparks, NV)
- Provide controls engineering support for troubleshooting, commissioning, and ongoing controls support within battery manufacturing equipment.
- Program and debug PLC controllers (Siemens TIA Portal and Omron Sysmac Studio) using structured text and ladder logic.
- Develop operator touchscreen interfaces (Siemens WinCC, Proface, Weintek EasyBuilder) and SCADA dashboards (Ignition).
- Design and implement control programs for complex, multi-station machinery (material handling, welding, testing, etc.).
- Set up and tune servo drives and VFDs to ensure smooth and fast machine operation.
- Participate in equipment conceptual development, balancing product specs, process needs, cost, and timing.
- Design and implement functional safety systems for robots, conveyors, and other equipment per relevant codes/standards.
- Oversee electrical cabinet builds, field wiring, and pneumatic/fluid plumbing.
- Manage suppliers during specification, design, buyoff, and installation phases of automated equipment.
- Develop and maintain documentation for all electrical equipment and related procedures.
- Conduct functional safety gap audits and ensure compliance with all risk assessments and requirements.
- Design and implement electrical and software changes for functional safety upgrades.
- Perform I/O checks and test all electrical inputs/outputs for integrity.
- Coordinate and assist with procurement of parts for safety architecture implementation.
- Guide and coordinate with electrical technicians during hardware installation.
Top Requirements (Must Haves):
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, or 5+ years' experience in Control Systems Design and PLCs (or equivalent).
- Hands-on implementation experience with PLCs (Siemens, Omron preferred).
- Experience with HMI/GUI systems (Proface, WinCC, Ignition).
- Proficiency in creating detailed electrical and fluid schematics in CAD (EPLAN preferred).
- Skilled in Structured Text programming (IEC 61131-3).
- Knowledge of and experience with functional safety, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies.
- Strong troubleshooting and commissioning skills for manufacturing automation systems.
