Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to support the design, development, implementation, and commissioning of industrial process control and automation systems. This position will work on DCS, PLC, and Safety Instrumented System (SIS) projects from front-end design through startup and commissioning.

The Controls Engineer will work closely with process engineering, operations, maintenance, project management, and other engineering disciplines to develop reliable and safe automation solutions for industrial facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, configure, program, test, and commission DCS and PLC-based control systems.

• Develop control system architecture, control narratives, functional descriptions, logic diagrams, and system documentation.

• Develop and review P&IDs, instrument indexes, I/O lists, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, and related controls documentation.

• Configure and support Distributed Control Systems including Emerson DeltaV and similar DCS platforms.

• Develop and troubleshoot PLC applications utilizing platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Modicon, and similar industrial control systems.

• Support Safety Instrumented System (SIS) design, configuration, testing, and implementation.

• Develop control strategies and perform process control loop configuration and tuning.

• Support control system migrations and modernization projects involving legacy DCS and PLC platforms.

• Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), loop checks, startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

• Review existing control systems and recommend improvements to reliability, efficiency, operability, and safety.

• Develop and maintain control system databases and documentation using SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) or similar tools.

• Coordinate controls engineering activities with process, electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, operations, and maintenance teams.

• Review vendor documentation and ensure control system equipment meets project specifications and client requirements.

• Support Management of Change (MOC) documentation and implementation.

• Troubleshoot complex process automation, instrumentation, and control system issues.

• Provide technical support during construction, installation, startup, and plant operations.

• Ensure designs and installations comply with applicable client standards, industry requirements, and safety practices.

• Support project planning, scheduling, estimating, and execution as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred.

• Extensive experience in industrial controls, process automation, instrumentation, or control systems engineering.

• Strong experience with DCS and PLC systems in industrial environments.

• Experience with Emerson DeltaV strongly preferred.

• Experience with additional platforms such as Client TDC, Siemens T3000, ABB, Fisher Provox, Allen-Bradley, Modicon, or Triconex is beneficial.

• Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) preferred.

• Working knowledge of P&IDs, loop drawings, control narratives, I/O documentation, and instrumentation.

• Experience with SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) or similar instrumentation database software preferred.

• Hands-on experience supporting FAT, SAT, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and control loop tuning.

• Experience with industrial control system upgrades and migrations.

• Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering, operations, maintenance, construction, and client teams.

• Strong technical problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
