Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Controls Panel Builder with strong experience in industrial automation. This role requires hands-on expertise in building electrical control panels, creating accurate electrical drawings, and ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and safety standards. The ideal candidate will also have a solid understanding of industrial safety requirements and exposure to robotics systems.
Key Responsibilities
· Build and wire industrial control panels based on electrical schematics and layout drawings
· Mount components such as PLCs, HMIs, relays, VFDs, power supplies, and terminal blocks
· Interpret and follow electrical drawings, including schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams
· Create and modify electrical drawings using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar)
· Ensure all panels meet industry standards and electrical codes (UL, NEC, NFPA, etc.)
· Apply and follow machine safety standards, including proper implementation of safety circuits (e-stops, safety relays, interlocks, etc.)
· Perform point-to-point wiring, labeling, and verification of panel builds
· Conduct quality checks, testing, and troubleshooting of completed panels
· Collaborate with engineers and project teams to ensure design accuracy and functionality
· Support integration and wiring of robotic systems and automation equipment
· Maintain organized documentation for builds, revisions, and compliance records
· Support installation, commissioning, and field troubleshooting as needed
· Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
· Proven experience building industrial control panels in an automation environment
· Strong understanding of electrical schematics and panel layout drawings
· Experience creating electrical drawings and documentation
· Knowledge of relevant electrical codes and standards (UL508A, NEC, NFPA 79, etc.)
· Understanding of industrial safety requirements and safe design practices
· Familiarity with safety components such as safety relays, light curtains, and interlock systems
· Exposure to or experience working with industrial robotics systems
· Ability to read and interpret technical documents and specifications
· Proficiency with CAD tools (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar)
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
· Experience with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) preferred
· Hands-on experience integrating or supporting robotic systems is a plus (e.g., FANUC, ABB, KUKA, Universal Robots) preferred
· UL508A panel shop experience or certification preferred
· Electrical degree, certification, or equivalent hands-on experience preferred
