Controls Technician / PLC Technician

Kingston, NY (Onsite)

Full-Time | Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Overview

We are seeking a skilled Controls Technician to support the installation, programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting of industrial automation systems within a manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on role combining electrical, mechanical, and PLC expertise to ensure reliable equipment operation and drive automation initiatives across the plant.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working on the floor, solving real-time issues, and building/optimizing automated systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install automation systems from rough-in through final wiring/termination and PLC programming
  • Troubleshoot and maintain PLC-based control systems and manufacturing equipment
  • Program and modify PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Omron) to support operations and improvements
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical systems
  • Build and support hydraulic power units for plant equipment
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, electrical diagrams, and schematics
  • Support equipment start-ups, commissioning, and troubleshooting (including occasional travel)
  • Collaborate with mechanics, operators, and engineering teams to resolve issues and improve performance
  • Respond to off-hour emergencies when required to minimize downtime

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in controls, automation, electrical, or system maintenance in a manufacturing or industrial environment

  • Strong knowledge of PLC systems, especially:

  • Allen-Bradley

  • Omron

  • Hands-on experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics

  • Experience troubleshooting industrial equipment and automation systems

  • Valid driver's license (for occasional site visits)

  • Basic set of personal hand tools

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Background as a maintenance technician or controls technician in manufacturing
  • Experience working with automated production lines or similar machinery
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on, field-focused mindset

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kingston, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $36.00/hr.
