We are a federal, state, and locally funded Community Action Agency.
JFCAC offers a variety of impactful programs for eligible individuals and families, from early childhood education, rental and utility assistance to home upgrades that improve energy efficiency and creates safer living environments.
To carry out our mission and expand our impact, we are seeking a dedicated individual to step into an important role within our Head Start Program - The Cook/Custodian.
This is a fully on-site role supporting daily center operations.
As a Cook/Custodian you will be assisting in meeting the basic needs, like nutritious food and cleanliness, of the children in the centers - both of which are critical to school readiness and overall well-being. Proper nutrition helps children grow, focus and succeed in the classroom, while a clean and well-maintained center keeps both the children and staff safe.
JOB SUMMARY
The Cook/Custodian is responsible for buying, storing, preparing, cooking and serving meals to the Head Start children. The Cook coordinates with center staff on activities and supervises kitchen volunteers. Also responsible for general cleaning of the classrooms, bathrooms and kitchen used by JFCAC children, staff and families.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Cook Duties:
Prepares and serves nutritious and economical meals according to the planned menu. Serves meals in an attractive environment using "family style" meal service.
Conforms to printed Head Start menus posted in the kitchen except when an emergency arises. In an emergency the substitute menu is used.
Ensures changes made in an approved menu, due to availability of food item must be approved by Family Health Coordinator and noted on record.
Complies with sanitation guidelines as recommended by the State of Missouri Health Department. Keeps area sanitary, clean, and orderly.
Area includes: cooking appliances, utensils, dishes, kitchen, and serving area.
Cleaning checklists is completed each day and kept on file.
Cleans dining room tables, chairs, and floor in eating area before each meal and immediately after each meal using the assistance of other staff as needed.
Attends meetings, in-service, and other meetings or training.
Maintains food service equipment in working condition. Reports any problems and repairs to Team Supervisor.
Maintain all records and documentation pertaining to food services including purchase amounts of food, recording expenditures, and daily sanitation checklist.
Addresses special diet needs for Head Start children in cooperation with Health Coordinator.
Maintain a general knowledge of the Head Start Performance Standards and complies with the standards.
Follow CACFP regulations for preparation, storage, and disposal of foods.
Prepare Grocery List based on provided Menu and any dietary restrictions.
Travel to Grocery store to purchase items on the list.
Custodian Duties:
Remove and dispose of all trash from restrooms, kitchen and classrooms.
Sanitize bathroom floors, sinks, and toilets.
Stock paper towels, toilet paper and hand soap.
Sweep and mop all floors daily.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & CAPABILITIES
High School Diploma/GED/HiSet
Education must be verified before hire
Physically able to stand for long periods of time, as well as stooping, squatting, and/or lifting approximately 50 lbs.
Ability to successfully navigate the internet, email and calendar applications
Must be willing to submit to Criminal Background Screenings
Certificate in ServSafe or must obtain within 60 days of employment - REQUIRED
Must have Valid Driver License
Must have reliable transportation
Travel to/from store to purchase needed items
Travel to/from meetings/trainings throughout Jefferson and/or Franklin County
