Description CORPS: Everett POSITION TITLE: Cook STATUS: Regular Full-Time/ Non-Exempt COMPENSATION: $21.30 hourly, payable bi-weekly. SUPERVISOR: Corps Officers GENERAL STATEMENT: The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian Church, and the ultimate goal of all programs is spiritual regeneration of all people. SCOPE OF POSITION: Responsible for planning, preparing, and serving meals as needed for Corps and Shelter programming DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: + Plan nutritious meals using food that is donated, commodities or purchased. + Handle the purchasing of food as needed + Supervise volunteers as kitchen helpers and servers + Oversee the cleaning of the kitchen to be sure that Public Health Department regulations are followed + See that the kitchen is maintained in a safe manner + Oversee the proper storage of food and supplies + Work with Shelter Supervisor to plan meals for special events (i.e., Thanksgiving, Mother's Day etc.) and monthly menus. + Work with the Social Services Director to determine what product may be used for the program. + Responsible for gathering/purchasing grab-and-go breakfast items, snacks, and easy-to-make lunch items for the shelter program. + Any other duties related to the running of the meal program that may be assigned EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: + An understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army's mission, philosophy, and practices + Experience as a cook, in menu planning, purchasing, and food service + Ability to accurately figure the costs of meals. + Ability to work independently with good judgment + Current food handlers certificate PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : + Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time. + Must have the ability to grab, push, pull, and lift items weighing up to 45lbs. + Must have the ability to withstand warmer-than-average temperatures. + Must have the ability to read and comprehend the English language. + Must have the ability to effectively communicate and coordinate efforts with others . Working Conditions: Work is primarily conducted in a sheltered environment, with occasional outdoor duties. The indoor setting ensures a consistent and predictable work environment, free from the discomfort of inclement weather changes. However, some discomfort may be related to noise, dust, dirt, and similar factors. For the occasional outdoor tasks, please dress according to the weather forecast. Work Schedule / Location : This position is located at our shelter in Everett, Washington. Upon hire, the assigned schedule will be confirmed based on operational and program needs of the shelter. Scheduling may vary depending on the shelter operations and program coverage. Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. Paid Vacation: Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months' service time.
