The Cook is responsible for the preparation, cooking, and presentation of meals in accordance with established recipes, dietary guidelines, food safety standards, and quality expectations. The Cook works collaboratively with the culinary and dining services team to provide excellent food service and ensure a positive dining experience for residents and guests.

The primary responsibilities for this position include:

  • Performs daily maintenance checks for equipment operation, temperature control, and safety standards. Advises supervisor of needed maintenance repairs. Ensures that all Federal and State regulatory and licensure requirements are met.
  • Reviews daily menu, pulls and preps all items necessary for menu requirements and special functions. Prepares and distributes food for residents, guests, and employees according to established production guidelines and sanitation standards.
  • Ensures that all food items are covered, dated, properly stored and stacked. Discards outdated or potentially unsafe/contaminated food.
  • Ensures that all hot foods are "hot" and cold foods are "cold", meeting Fairfax County's Health Department's mandated minimum and maximum temperatures.
  • Participates in catering of special functions. Is involved in the planning and implementing of special holiday menus.

Requirements for this position include:

  • 2 years of previous cooking experience in a restaurant, healthcare, hospitality, or senior living environment preferred
  • Knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen operations
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed
