Cook / PRN Shift

The Laurel at Vernon Hills Memory Care, located in Vernon Hills, IL is seeking a passionate, professional, and customer-oriented Cook to provide an extraordinary dining experience for the residents in our community.

COOK (Cooking Experience Needed)

Shift is PRN meaning to fill gaps when needed including weekends.

Responsibilities of the Cook

• Preparation and service of quality meals for all residents including those with special diet needs. 
• Follows menu program or an approved substitute menu to ensure that nutritional needs and preferences of the residents are met.
• Ensures plate presentation is attractive and appetizing for the resident population.
• Assist in planning and coordinating special events for marketing and activities. 
• Continuously monitor and appropriately address resident concerns and preferences.
• Adheres to proper food handling and sanitation guidelines.
• Ensure residents are provided privacy, respect, and dignity.
• Follows standard precautions and infection control procedures.
• Completes state required training upon hire and annually. 

Required Experience

• Possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Desired 2-3 years of related and advanced food service and cooking experience.
• Working in a Senior Living Community is a plus. 
• Experience with basic operation of kitchen equipment, intermediate to advanced knife experience is preferred.
• Basic computer skills.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write in the English language.
