    Job Description

    General Definition of Work

    The Coordinating Teacher, Multilingual Learner Curriculum, under moderate supervision, performs complex work with limited decision-making discretion providing supplemental curriculum support to teachers and administrators with multilingual learner (ML) students. This position develops, monitors, analyzes, and evaluates ML curriculum materials and resources as well as monitoring the development of school-based Language Instruction Educational Programs (LIEPs) and individual ML plans. The Coordinating Teacher, ML Curriculum provides specific support to schools in completing School LIEPs and utilizing data to drive instructional improvements. Employee performs both school-based and district-level work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the Executive Director of Federal Programs & English Language Learners (ELL).

    Place of Work

    The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

    Essential Functions

    • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
    • Adhere to the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards
    • Assist schools in administering the state-identified English Language Proficiency (ELP) tests
    • Plan and implement a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of assigned students
    • Support effective ML curriculum and instruction implementation at schools
    • Support and monitor the implementation of school-based LIEPs and completion of individual ML Plans that include specific instructional strategies and student learning goals and classroom modifications
    • Aid schools in using ML data to make instructional and programmatic decisions
    • Design and deliver effective professional development for teachers and administrators to address the unique linguistic and academic learning needs of MLs, instructional resources, federal and state guidelines, and related materials
    • Collaborate across departments such as Learning and Teaching Services, Accountability, and Instructional Technology to support effective ML instruction
    • Model effective instruction for MLs in both classroom and professional development settings
    • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in accordance with goals established by the district
    • Sort, organize, and distribute curriculum materials from the CMS warehouse as needed
    • Perform related work as assigned or required

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

    • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules, policies and procedures related to the education of ML students
    • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, standards, and expectations of ML curriculum design and implementation
    • Comprehensive knowledge of how to utilize appropriate data and information to make instructional decisions for students
    • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of various learning styles, curriculum development and program evaluation, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning
    • Skilled in communication, both verbal and written
    • Skilled in computers and software including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
    • Skilled in time management and organizational skills
    • Skilled in delivering presentations and professional development
    • Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment, or software related to instructional practice and business needs
    • Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operations
    • Ability to analyze data and determine alternate approaches to assist schools in improving instructional strategies
    • Ability to identify professional development needs, plan professional development programs, and to coach adults
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and work collaboratively with multiple departments, schools, and community groups
    • Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships
    • Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums
    • Ability to problem-solve utilizing sound judgment
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding school system business
    • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgement
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, rapidly changing team environment

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's Degree in Education with emphasis in ESL or other related field required
    • Three (3) years teaching experience required
    • Valid NC Teaching certification in ESL required
