Amazon is seeking a Coordination Program Manager with Construction and Design BIM proficiency to support the execution of BIM requirements and processes across the Global Customer Fulfillment (GCF) program. This role will serve as the primary liaison between key internal Amazon design stakeholder teams, the GES Pre-Construction and Construction Execution teams, external design teams and general contractors to coordinate project work of all.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop a clear understanding of assigned building type technical design standards and templates within the IVD (Integrated Virtual Delivery) portfolio, learning the ins and outs of assigned retrofit or new-build construction types to support coordination activities that project teams execute independently
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for maintaining and developing coordination workflows, orchestrating systems that connect project teams with SMEs who can respond to building and design clarifications
  • Support the execution of the Integrated Virtual Delivery program, which includes the implementation of a set of BIM standards Amazon requires on projects, and ensure alignment with critical stakeholders from partner teams so they can support the program and cascade it through their own organizations
  • Engage with GES Design and Construction, Preconstruction, and Construction Management to administer program requirements from bid phase through construction and turnover for assigned building template type(s)
  • Ensure alignment of project stakeholders with all aspects of coordination scope, standards, and processes for up to 6 projects at a time. Connect design, construction, and internal Amazon stakeholders through defined coordination processes
  • Support the team in generating a coordination and approval schedule for each project by receiving schedule information from project teams and integrating it into the broader program timeline
  • Implement the program framework that connects SMEs from critical teams to resolve issues within a project, gathering constraints and requirements across design disciplines, constructability, and engineering to help deliver results
  • Fully support the execution work that project teams are doing within the coordination context, tracking KPIs that indicate the need to escalate issues within the program, and executing those escalations appropriately
  • Complete onboarding for external design and construction companies to ensure alignment on project coordination execution for those companies and those they contract with
  • Work independently while earning trust and building strong rapport across a broader team - deliver results through good management and strong relationships
  • Clear understanding of field constructability, construction means and methods, including project sequencing and scheduling constraints
  • Operate strategically, efficiently, and frugally in all role responsibilities
  • Accelerate progress by seeking out the best decision and being the responsible decision-maker in critical coordination and site discussions
  • Identify key design/construction constraints
  • Balance expediency, quality, and resources through prioritization
  • Manage efficient and organized meetings
  • Lead detailed design discussions while ensuring program-level goals are met
  • Clear and concise in verbal and written communications
  • Up to 60% travel may be required for the role as needed

A day in the life

  • Administration of coordination program activities across portfolio projects, ensuring project teams have the connections and resources needed to execute coordination between facility systems and Amazon operations equipment
  • Attend and coach project teams managing their own coordination meetings - providing technical insights, expertise, and connecting them with solutions when issues arise; ensuring teams stay on schedule, communications are effective, and scope creep or changes requiring escalation are identified before additional costs are incurred without approval
  • Managing program-level tracking that integrates high-level stakeholder schedules and coordination milestones across projects
  • Working directly with Revit, Navisworks Manage, BIM360/ACC
  • Developing documentation to support project coordination-related work and supporting the development of BIM standards
  • Liaising with SMEs directly connected to the coordination program to help identify and resolve issues across projects
  • Direct contact with design teams and general contractors as a support role to the Construction Manager, Preconstruction Manager, and design engineers for Material Handling Equipment - serving as a resource for interfacing with internal Amazon teams to remove coordination roadblocks

About the team

IVD (Integrated Virtual Delivery) is a team with a background in design, construction management, BIM software and workflows, and technical coordination. The team works as a resource for the most technical and challenging types of fulfillment center projects, serving as a conduit between the team managing the project (including the primary Construction Manager) and other engineering teams that manage Material Handling, Robotics, and Operations primarily. To support the mission, IVD also manages the administration of the data sharing and BIM coordination environment for all fulfillment projects.

Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
