JOB SUMMARY

The Coordinator 2, Assessment Data Quality supports district assessment data quality, reporting, and dashboard operations for state and local assessment programs. The role builds and maintains Power BI and Microsoft Fabric dashboards that help leaders monitor assessment completion, state testing registration, roster accuracy, accommodations, eligibility, and readiness. The Coordinator applies business rules, Power Query, DAX, validation checks, and reconciliation processes across district systems, vendor files, and assessment platforms.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and refresh Power BI and Microsoft Fabric dashboards for assessment completion, participation, registration status, and readiness.
  • Maintain data models, Power Query transformations, DAX measures, semantic model logic, metadata tables, and assessment reporting business rules.
  • Execute state and local test registration workflows, including roster matching, demographics, grade and course eligibility, accommodations, program indicators, and campus assignments.
  • Validate missing, duplicate, inconsistent, out-of-window, or mismatched records across student information systems, assessment platforms, vendor files, and district data sources.
  • Reconcile discrepancies, document root causes, and escalate issues to Assessment, IT, campus, or vendor partners as needed.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

  • Provide tier two support to campuses and central teams for data quality, completion monitoring, registration, access, and dashboard questions.
  • Translate stakeholder requests into reporting requirements, field mappings, validation rules, slicers, summaries, and student-level outputs.
  • Use approved automation and AI tools to improve documentation, error-checking, repeatable QA, and process efficiency while protecting student confidentiality.
  • Stay current on state and district assessment requirements, assessment technology, data governance, and Fabric/Power BI capabilities; perform other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Bachelor''s Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

1 to 5 years of directly related experience in data reporting, dashboard development, assessment operations, data quality, K-12 student information systems, educational analytics, or a closely related field. Experience in a large urban school district, assessment office, central office, or education technology environment preferred.

Skill and/or Required Licensing/Certification

  • Power BI dashboard development, Power Query, DAX, Excel, and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Ability to build refreshable data models, field mappings, and documented business rules without hard-coding results.
  • Experience validating assessment, roster, registration, accommodations, completion, participation, or performance data.
  • Ability to transform and troubleshoot CSV, SFTP/API, vendor system, assessment platform, and district data sources.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify duplicate, missing, mismatched, or out-of-window records.
  • Ability to explain technical logic, dashboard counts, and data discrepancies in plain language.
  • Excellent customer service, confidentiality, prioritization, and process improvement skills, including responsible use of automation or approved AI tools.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

No direct supervisory responsibilities. Serves as a technical lead for assigned assessment data quality workstreams by coordinating timelines, clarifying requirements, providing work guidance and training, reviewing dashboard logic, and supporting quality assurance with staff, campuses, central departments, IT, and vendors.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing direction on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.

Compiles and organizes data and figures.

PROBLEM SOLVING

Decisions are made with greater freedom and discretion, including recommendations that are subject to approval on matters that may affect multiple departments across HISD. Job is frequently expected to recommend new solutions to problems, to improve existing methods/procedures/services and generate new ideas. May also review decisions made by other individuals on more routine matters.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS

Decisions have a moderate impact on the department and campuses. Errors can affect the accuracy and validity of tests, leading to disruption of campus testing.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and co-workers in own and other departments.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS

Follows through with customer inquiries, requests, and complaints. Forwards difficult and non-routine inquiries or requests to appropriate level for resolution.

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
