Description
Performs responsible, professional work in support of specialized academic learning laboratory operation. Work is governed by broad instructions and objectives in a dynamic environment. Requires substantial judgment and creativity in the development of activities and solution of problems.
Essential Functions/Duties
- Supervise and schedule OPS and Student Workers.
- Create, manage, and maintain standard operating procedure documents for laboratory activity setup, management, and inventory.
- Research, recommend, and request budget items relative to costs, vendors etc. Price and select items for program lab.
- Assemble and prepare new supply and equipment orders.
- Prepare program class labs, clean and store lab equipment, and supplies.
- Prepare inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Work with Risk Manager and Administrators to develop and implement appropriate chemical hygiene and biohazard practices and policies.
- Ensure adherence to proper safety protocols and compliance with federal, sate, and local safety regulations.
- Maintain all labeling according to established safety regulations.
- Maintain records (including Safety Data Sheets) following the guidelines of regulatory agencies.
- Monitor procurement, use and disposal of chemicals and biohazardous materials used in laboratories.
- Setup and conduct basic maintenance on lab equipment.
- Arrange for maintenance of equipment.
- Monitor and coordinate disposal of waste materials.
- Ensure that proper audits are maintained.
- Maintain and disseminate knowledge of current legal requirements as they pertain to regulated substances.
- Collaborate with the coordination and documentation of appropriate training for faculty, lab assistants, OPS workers, and administrators.
- Receive, analyze, and maintain all required reports and records required and prepare recommendations required by the College or regulatory agencies.

Working Conditions/Additional Information
- This position is a full-time on-campus position located at our Winter Haven campus, but will travel to event locations as necessary. (Remote/hybrid options are not available.)
- Weekend and evening work may be required.
- Position may be required to work during College closures (such as winter/spring break and inclement weather closures).
- Must be available to work overtime hours during peak periods.
- This position will require the ability to lift at least 20 lbs.
Salary and Benefits Information
- This position is level P12.

Required Education:
- Bachelors Degree from a regionally accredited institution in chemistry, biology, or an associated field is required.
Required Experience:
- Two years of experience in a laboratory experience is required.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in a higher education setting in academic services is preferred.
