Job Title: Commissioning Manager Assistant / Coordinator

Job Description

This role supports the on-site Commissioning Manager at a data center project in Barstow, Texas. The Commissioning Manager Assistant helps plan and coordinate commissioning activities, participates in system testing and verification, and supports a smooth turnover from construction to operations. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity expected to run approximately 6-9 months, with potential for extension.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Commissioning Manager with day-to-day commissioning activities at the data center site.
  • Assist with the development, review, and maintenance of commissioning plans, schedules, and readiness documentation.
  • Coordinate with project teams to integrate commissioning activities into construction sequencing and milestone planning.
  • Assist with functional testing activities to confirm that system performance meets design specifications and project requirements.
  • Help review and document deviations, deficiencies, or non-conformances identified during testing and coordinate their resolution through closure.
  • Support verification that systems are fully operational to enable a smooth transition from construction completion to ongoing operations.
  • Assist with conducting training sessions for site staff to support system operations, performance requirements, and ongoing performance expectations.
  • Attend project meetings, including OAC meetings, commissioning coordination meetings, and trade-specific work sessions, to support commissioning execution.
  • Assist with tracking commissioning deliverables such as checklists, test scripts, deficiency logs, turnover packages, and system readiness milestones to ensure timely completion.
  • Support monitoring and reporting of commissioning progress metrics, including system completion status, test pass/fail rates, outstanding issues, and closure timelines, to aid schedule and risk management.
  • Collaborate with construction, electrical, and MEP teams to address commissioning-related issues and maintain alignment with project goals.
  • Maintain organized documentation and records related to commissioning activities, testing results, and turnover packages.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1-3 years of construction field experience preferred, ideally on commercial or data center projects.
  • Basic understanding of construction methods, scheduling, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Understanding of electrical systems and MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) concepts.
  • In-field construction experience supporting commissioning, supervision, or site coordination.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word and Excel.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with project teams, trade partners, and site staff.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage documentation, schedules, and commissioning deliverables.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to help identify issues during testing and support timely resolution.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree or construction-related education preferred.
  • Experience in electrical construction, commercial construction, or construction supervision is beneficial.
  • Experience working on data center projects is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with construction management practices and commissioning processes.
  • Proficiency with construction management software preferred, including Excel-based tools, Procore, and CXAlloy.
  • Ability to track and report on metrics such as system completion status, test results, and issue closure.
  • Comfort attending and contributing to OAC and trade coordination meetings.
  • Ability to assist with or deliver basic training sessions for site staff on system operations and performance requirements.

Work Environment

This role is fully on site at a data center in Barstow, Texas. You will work in an active construction and commissioning environment, collaborating closely with construction, electrical, and MEP teams. The position involves frequent presence on the jobsite, participation in project and coordination meetings, and hands-on involvement in system testing and verification. Standard construction-site safety practices apply. The schedule aligns with typical construction working hours, with potential for extended hours as project milestones and commissioning activities require. Benefits available through the contracting organization include medical, dental, and vision coverage, six paid holidays, and at least one week of paid time off, with the possibility of additional PTO if the contract is extended. The role is structured as a contract-to-hire opportunity, with the initial term expected to be approximately 9 months and the potential for longer engagement based on project needs and performance.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $75000.00/hr.
