Job Summary

The part-time (20-25 hours per week) lab coordinator for the Center for Languages provides operational oversight to the language lab, including the management of day-to-day operations of the Taylorsville Redwood Campus language lab, supervision of tutors, and supporting students learning world languages at Salt Lake Community College. Responsibilities include scheduling faculty and tutors, recruiting and training student employees, tracking inventory, and maintaining specialized language software.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  1. Become familiar with and abide by all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization.

  2. Maintain professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.

  3. Oversee physical and digital language lab operation (for example, assist students with language-learning software, testing, and language tutoring).

  4. Coordinate conversation tables through collaboration with individual faculty members.

  5. Proctor language proficiency exams and placement tests.

  6. Recruit, train, and schedule student tutors and front desk staff.

  7. Manage tutor, student, and faculty needs as related to the language lab.

  8. Assist in maintaining a safe, positive, and mutually respectful instructional environment.

  9. Track and maintain the Center for Languages inventory.

  10. Prepare and submit incident reports to Dean of Students Office for inappropriate student behavior (including student employees) as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.

Minimum qualifications

  1. Associate of Arts of Associate of Science Degree

  2. Two years of experience in leadership and office management

  3. Proven ability to manage teams, programs, and ensure operational efficiency

  4. Strong interpersonal, cross-cultural, and professional communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Associates Degree in Language-related field or Business Administration

  2. Familiarity with learning management system (LMS) platforms, EdTech tools, and testing protocols

  3. Experience with learning outcomes, language placement testing, and educational program review

  4. Knowledgeable in language proficiency standards, especially in ACTFL

  5. 3+ years of experience in leadership and office management

  6. Proven ability to manage teams, programs, and ensure operational efficiency

  7. Strong interpersonal, cross-cultural, and professional communication skills
