Coordinator, Competitive Sports (R0010609) – TampaPosition DetailsThe Office of Campus Recreation at the University of Tampa seeks a Coordinator of Competitive Sports to oversee day‑to‑day operations of the sports program. This role reports to the Assistant Director, Competitive Sports and supports the Office of Student Affairs' values of data‑informed practice, belonging, well‑being, professional staff development, retention, and a Spartan Ready culture.ResponsibilitiesAssist in hiring, training, supervising, and developing student coordinators, program assistants, student supervisors, intramural officials, club sport officers, and a program serving 20 clubs, 1,240+ club athletes, and 3,500+ intramural participants.Provide training and bi‑weekly meetings for club sports officers and participants.Help manage Competitive Sports program finances, including financial requests, fund allocation, and purchasing requests.Develop club volunteers, coaches, and advisors; support policy updates, travel and financial policy training, and training on the Involve platform for rosters, travel requests, funding requests, absence requests, and home event requests.Act as risk manager: develop and maintain systems for safe conditions, operating procedures, and equipment; create policies for facilities and programs; train staff on risk‑management skills.Implement and train staff on travel policies.Maintain inventory of Competitive Sports apparel and equipment.Coordinate home game and practice schedules, primary facility usage schedule, marketing, social media, and publicity efforts.Conduct program and facility reviews, evaluations, surveys, assessments, and reports.Administer intramural sports leagues, tournaments, and special events; train intramural officials.Participate in university training on Workday and other departmental technology platforms.Build an inclusive work environment that values cultural and background diversity.Manage staff schedules, ensure coverage for events, adjust schedules as needed, and support payroll approval.RequirementsBachelor's degree required (Master's preferred), with preference for fields such as Exercise Science, Health Science, Recreation Management, Sport Management, or Student Affairs.Experience with club and intramural sports, understanding of day‑to‑day operations.Officiating experience at high school, recreational league, or intramural levels.Strong communication skills with students, faculty, and staff.Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.Experience with technology such as IMLeagues, Fusion, Connect2Concepts, When2Work, or similar.Experience managing student, part‑time, and/or full‑time employees.Valid CPR/AED and First Aid Instructor Certification within 90 days of employment.Proficiency in Workday and Microsoft Office.Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative practices.Work ScheduleMonday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Summer: Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m., with flexibility to work evenings, nights, and weekends for events.Background CheckFinalists may be required to submit to a criminal background check.
