Human Resources Coordinator

Location: Wayne, MI
Schedule: 100% Onsite | Morning Shift (5:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
Duration: Long-Term Contract (12 Months)

Position Overview

We are seeking a Human Resources Coordinator – Attendance & Leave to support a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role serves as the primary resource for attendance administration, leave management, employee relations, and policy compliance. The position requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive employee matters professionally and confidentially.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing attendance programs, conducting corrective action meetings, partnering with leadership, and supporting a unionized workforce while ensuring compliance with company policies and labor agreements.

Key Responsibilities

Attendance & Leave Administration

  • Administer attendance and leave programs in accordance with company policies and labor agreements.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for attendance-related processes, leaves of absence, bereavement, and policy interpretation.
  • Provide guidance to supervisors, managers, and employees regarding attendance and leave matters.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, leave, and timekeeping records.
  • Audit and correct attendance and timekeeping data to ensure compliance and data integrity.

Employee Relations & Corrective Actions

  • Conduct attendance-related corrective action meetings and disciplinary hearings.
  • Administer progressive discipline for attendance and policy violations.
  • Communicate difficult decisions with professionalism, consistency, and respect.
  • Manage sensitive employee situations using effective conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques.
  • Maintain thorough and legally defensible documentation.

Labor Relations Support

  • Collaborate with union representatives to address attendance concerns and resolve employee issues.
  • Partner with supervisors and managers on employee relations matters and attendance accountability.
  • Support grievance investigations by gathering and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to contractual obligations and workplace policies.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Analyze attendance trends, absenteeism patterns, tardiness, and leave utilization.
  • Prepare reports and provide recommendations to leadership.
  • Track attendance-related actions and documentation.
  • Support job abandonment and separation processes when required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labor Relations, or a related field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage difficult conversations and resolve workplace conflicts.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience using HRIS systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting a unionized manufacturing or industrial workforce.
  • Knowledge of labor agreements and employee relations practices.
  • Familiarity with FMLA, ADA, and leave administration processes.
  • Experience with HRIS, timekeeping, or workforce management systems such as Kronos, SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms.
